James Russell Ford - Painter

(1888 - 1963)

James Russell Ford was born in California on March 3, 1888. When he was nine years old his family settled in Alameda, California where the artist lived for the remainder of his life. After serving in WW1, Ford began a career as a commercial printer while painting in his leisure. He maintained a studio in his home at 1305 Pearl Street until his death there on February 22, 1963.

Ford was a member of the Alameda Art Association, serving as its president in 1955. He exhibited at the Oakland Art Gallery in 1945 and 1954 and he displayed a work with the Society of Western Artists at the de Young Museum in San Francisco in 1953.
